WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR FIRST NIGHT AFTER MOVING

Moving can be exciting, but it can also be stressful. Figuring out what to pack for your first night after moving is the first step to a smooth move.

You may be looking forward to spending your first night in your new home, but moving is exhausting! After all of your hard work packing and moving, it’s likely that the last thing you want to do in your new home is search through your MANY boxes to find everything that you need for the first night.

We recommend packing a “first night box” that has everything your family will need for a comfortable night in your new home. In this article, we will dive into what you should pack for your first night in your new home, as well as ways to make sure that you can easily access them.

1. Bedding

As we mentioned earlier, moving is exhausting. There is nothing worse than coming in to your new home after a long day and realizing that you don’t know where your bedding is.

You will probably have multiple boxes of bedding packed from your linen closet, but to keep things simple pack a few complete bed sets together for the family in a first night box. Your movers will assemble your beds for you, so all you have to do is make them up and you are ready for a good first night’s sleep in your new home.

A good sleep is always well deserved after a long day of moving.

2.Towels & Toiletries

Sweaty. Dirty. Physically and emotionally draining.

Moving day can be tough and you will no doubt want to freshen up at the end of the day. Make sure you pack a towel for every family member and necessary toiletries so you do not have to go digging for them in other boxes.

Toiletry Checklist:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Soap or body wash
  • Razor
  • Loofah or washcloth
  • Toothpaste + tooth brush
  • Face washing routine products
  • Moisturizer
  • Makeup remover
  • Makeup for the next day

It may also be beneficial to pack comfortable bed time clothes to wear after your post-move shower to make you feel right at home!

3.Plates, Cups, Cutlery

If you’re not planning on pulling the “move in go-to” and ordering a pizza, pack some kitchen gear for each family member so you can enjoy dinner and breakfast the next day without unpacking an entire china barrel of kitchenware.

Kitchenware is often packed up extra carefully to avoid any breakage during the move, so save yourself the hassle and pack some separately. Or just eat pizza for dinner and breakfast and make life easy!

4.Coffee Pot & Coffee

If you are a coffee lover then you know that a coffee pot, coffee and all the fixings are absolutely necessary for the next morning.

You will have a long day of unpacking and putting things away the next morning, so coffee lovers will need their caffeine boost!

PS. Don’t forget your favourite mug with your kitchenware first night box.

5.Wi-fi Box, Cell Phone Chargers, Laptops, Tablets

You might not have your home services set up yet but if you do have your wifi box, don’t forget to plug it in. This is a great way to allow you to watch some tv on the computer, or play some games on your phone after a long day of moving. This is also a great way to entertain the children so you can get some peace and quiet.

Also, don’t forget to keep your phone and computer chargers out and easily accessible! Especially if you use your phone for an alarm clock.

6. Fresh Clothes

Last but not least, pack extra clothes! As we mentioned earlier, moving can be sweaty and dirty. You may be more comfortable winding down in clean clothes in your new home.

Choose clothes that are comfy and that you can wind down in. Also, don’t forget to pack clothes to sleep in, as well as clothes for the next day.

Now You Are Ready for Your First Night!

We hope that these tips have helped you figure out what to pack for your first night after moving.

If you think of some other items that you would like for your first night in your new home, you may need to pack a couple of boxes. Make sure that the boxes are clearly labeled “FIRST NIGHT BOX” (and numbered if there are more than one), so that they are easy to find. It would also be useful to ask the movers to keep an eye out for the boxes so that they don’t get lost under any of the other boxes or furniture.

A good first night box is bound to set your move up for success!
